How a match works

Frequently asked

  • Where do these words come from?

They are the actual English word list of Scramblio — the words the game draws from in an English match. The list is curated by hand, rated easy, medium or hard, and updated in the app without a new release, so these pages follow it.

  • How does Scramblio choose and scramble a word?

Each round draws a random word. In a live match, the arena you play in decides how hard it is: a dearer arena draws harder words. The letters are then shuffled several times and the arrangement that best matches the word's difficulty is kept: easy words keep more letter pairs together, hard words come out almost completely jumbled.

  • How do I answer in the app?

Tap the letters in the word's order: each one drops into the next empty place, and its tile stays on top, faded. A full word goes by itself: a right one takes the round, a wrong one goes back up for another try. The tiles carry the word's own letters, accents included.

  • Can I get help with a hard word in a match?

Yes. A hard word longer than 4 letters starts with its first letter shown, for free, and takes one hint, which shows the second letter for 150 coins and 15 seconds of your own timer. Easy and medium words have no hints. Your opponent only sees that you took the hint — never the letter.
